Denver Public Schools primarily serves the residents of the City and County of Denver; 54% of the District is Latino, 16% is African American, and 25% is Anglo. Seventy-one percent of the District’s students qualify for the federal free lunch program.  DPS is comprised of 76 Elementary, 16 K-8, 12 Middle, 18 High, 31 Charter and 8 Alternative schools. The District’s special education and gifted and talented programs are among the most highly respected programs of their kind in Colorado and the District’s adult education program at Emily Griffith Opportunity School is widely recognized across the country.
